Dream Treasures: Learn the Secrets to Improving your Life

The treasures that we mine from our dreams are not only money, fame or influence.

We can enjoy these outcomes if we wish...if we pay the price for them.

The treasures that our dreams provide are far more important, far more useful, and treasures that we can cherish from one lifetime to another.

Here are some of the treasures that we can claim through our dreams, and through living our dreams:

Intuition

Intuition is the ability to know, just know. But, how does this work, and how can we develop this skill?

This ability resides in all of us, but only some of us pay attention to it.

One way to begin to pay attention to our intuition is through the observation and study of our dreams.

When we observe and study our dreams, we discover that many of the items that we formerly thought were intuitive were actually glimpsed memories of our dreams that we forgot, and only vaguely remembered during our intuitive glimpse.

Of course, each person has to discover their own internal clues and cues to determine what their body, their subconscious, and their emotions are communicating to them.

The discovery and exploration of representational patterns and sensory modalities move this self-discovery process along, and the more conversant we are about how we process information, the more quickly we test, and then trust our intuition.

An intuition journal is another way to develop a trust in our intuitive power.

Creativity

Creative expression, in all its forms is improved by the exploration and study of dreams.

There are many components that are associated with creativity. These include:

  • Making associations that were not made before
  • Seeing new uses/ solutions for old problems
  • Making new connections to ideas and solutions
  • Making descriptions unique, fresh and exciting

In addition, the incubation process that is associated with new developing new ideas is also used by turning the problem over to be solved with a dream.

If someone wanted to develop their own “voice” in their writing, one path is to record their dreams.

Service

Service to others, helping others, sharing. These are the major components of prosperity. Service to others, unselfish dedication, donation of goods, donation of your time These are the building blocks of blessings flowing to you.

Visual Memory

Remembering your dreams and being able to describe the images increases our ability to remember visually.

Visual memory is faster and more powerful than verbal memory.

Sometimes it is easier to remember the image (and create a new description of the image each time) than to remember the verbal description.

People who have outstanding verbal memory usually connect those verbal memories to images. Otherwise, the memory process is like having to start at the beginning of the verbal memory and recite the entire passage. This is like unraveling a string.

With visual memory, access is holistic, anywhere on the image. With verbal memory, access is at the beginning, or at the beginning of some emphasized part. (This may be the connection between right-brain-hemisphere visual/ spatial skills; and the left-brain-hemisphere's linear/ verbal skills.)

There is substantial evidence (but no proof) that additional mental processing creates additional connections and pathways in our brains. Over time, people who record and interpret their dreams may develop and increase their mental capacity in very subtle ways.

At any rate, the visual memory skills that are developed from the memory and recall of dreams become a resource and treasure for us.

Trust

One of the precious treasures available to us is the ability to trust the Universe to protect us and to provide for us.

This point of view only occurs when we believe that the Universe is fair. We also must believe that the Universe is looking out for us, is cognizant of us, and that all experiences that we encounter are for our own, ultimate good.

This trust must develop and maintain its existence in the face of sensory evidence that seems to indicate that the world is a dangerous and self-limited place.

Because dreams show us that the events and situations in our lives are fair and reasonable (since we earned and caused them); we discover that the Universe is fair.

Because dreams provide us advice that is caring about us, no matter what our shortcomings are. Advice that is so specific and tailor-made for us; we discover that some intelligence is tracking our journey and our progress.

Wisdom

From trust, comes wisdom.

Understanding that there is an intelligent order in our lives and allowing ourselves to connect to this pattern of order and intelligence is the basis of wisdom.

There is also wisdom in trusting that we are taken care of, elegantly and with grace, when we move through this life with intuition and acceptance.

Wisdom seems similar to wading in a current. The wise wader picks a path through the moving water, and then commits to the path. Once in the current, struggle and stress occur if we attempt to go up-current. If we wish to travel cross current, we travel a diagonal path, not resisting the flow and friction of the water.

There is danger in struggling against the current. We exhaust ourselves, and we might have to swim anyway.

There is wisdom in preparing to cross the current. For example: carrying a wading staff (a stick that we use to steady ourselves), holding on to a rope or vine, or even wearing a life jacket. We could wear special boots with square nails embedded in the soles that improve our footing.

Dreams help us know what equipment and what path we should take. If we pay attention and act upon this guidance, our journey will be much less stressful than it would have been.

Peace

Peace and peace of mind are treasures that relate to happiness.

Happiness is the meta-level aspiration of every living creature. And simple creatures know what happiness is for them. For simple creatures, happiness is fulfillment of that which satisfies their instinct.

Complicated creatures such as human beings find happiness more difficult, more elusive.

Humans learn to accept and strive for things and situations that are not instinctual. Humans are conditioned to yearn for things and situations that are not in their best interest through the contrivances of advertising and marketing.

In addition, children learn compliance and mediocrity in the modern, industrial revolution model, factory-based schools. Conformity and comparison to the average are prized, while unique, creative, individual pursuits are punished.

Dreams represent an exit strategy for replacing the myths of ourselves that are learned from socialization and schooling.

Only when the unique expression of ourselves bears fruit in synchronization with our lives and our life's purpose will we be living the moment-by-moment journey that is happiness.
